Mondays are always hard, especially the first Monday of the new year. I don’t know about you, but I get kind of spoiled by two holiday weeks in a row. That may today seem to really drag on and on. Like many households in America, Sunday afternoon is football time at the Hicks house. Cindy was a die-hard football fan and a life-long supporter of the Denver Broncos. I was never a huge football fan, but I did grow up cheering for the Dallas Cowboys (yes, I know they lost to the Redskins today and were out of the playoffs before the game started). When we moved to Arizona in 1990, we adopted the Arizona Cardinals as our third team to root for. Saturday used to be my favorite day of the week. It was a day off work when we could relax and do the things we missed out on Monday through Friday. Now Saturday’s are a stark reminder of what used to be and what no longer is. This Saturday, for example, marks twenty-two weeks that my Cindy has been gone. When you lose a loved one, especially a long-time spouse, it can be extremely hard to make changes. You just get used to the way things are (or should I say were).
That’s what I’m dealing with tonight.
Last week, I decided to move my desk into the bedroom and out of my “office” (a.k.a. the loft) for the sake of privacy and the hope that it might lead to some added productivity. Well, that required the relocation of several items in the bedroom and the packing up of others. Both activities have been incredibly difficult and I’ve found myself having to take frequent breaks to just lie across the bed and regain my strength and focus. [Read more…]
