Like many households in America, Sunday afternoon is football time at the Hicks house. Cindy was a die-hard football fan and a life-long supporter of the Denver Broncos. I was never a huge football fan, but I did grow up cheering for the Dallas Cowboys (yes, I know they lost to the Redskins today and were out of the playoffs before the game started). When we moved to Arizona in 1990, we adopted the Arizona Cardinals as our third team to root for. Well, the Cardinals are actually the fourth team we root for; Cindy always had a thing for the Miami Dolphins too, but I digress.
This football season started not too long after Cindy passed away and Kevin (who is also a huge football fan) and I weren’t sure if we would even watch it. I had subscribed to “Red Zone” on Dish to be on the safe side, but we weren’t sure we could bear it. After all, football was always a “Cindy thing” around this house. Slowly, as the preseason ramped up, we decided to give it a shot. The first games were really painful, especially the Denver games. Slowly, as the season went on, we concluded that Cindy wouldn’t want us to miss out on watching the games because she wasn’t here, so we started to get more and more into it. The fact that Denver is doing well this season didn’t hurt any.
Now, we’re heading into the playoffs. Both Arizona and Denver are still in the running and that’s a good thing. Dallas? Well, we’ll talk about them some other time.
